The New York Department of Motor Vehicles announced the winning number plate design to be used from 2020.The U.S. state of New York was the first to require its residents to register their motor vehicles in 1901. Registrants provided their own license plates, featuring their initials until 1903 and numbers thereafter, until the State began to issue number plates in 1910.
The DMV says number plate 5 is the winning design. New York State residents voted for the new plates from August 19 to September 2 2019.
